If you smell gas, don't run the dryer, don't flip a light switch, and don't use a phone inside the house. Get everyone outdoors right away and call the gas company from there. Six Things Every Whirlpool Dryer Owner Should Know

Empty every pocket before you load the dryer. A forgotten lighter is a real fire risk in a hot drum, and a tissue or pen can turn the whole load into a mess.

Feel a towel the moment it leaves the washer. If it drips when you lift it, the washer isn't spinning properly, and the dryer takes the blame for a wet load.

Sneakers, foam pillows, and rubber-backed mats don't always belong in a dryer. Please check the care label; heat can melt rubber and foam, leaving residue inside the drum.

Run the dryer empty for a minute and listen. A thump that repeats once every turn points to a worn part rather than the load, and that tells me where to start.

Try a timed dry cycle and tell me what happens. A dryer that heats on timed dry but not on automatic cycles sends me in a different direction than one that never heats at all.

Dryer repair and vent cleaning are two separate jobs. I can tell you whether airflow looks like part of your problem, but a house duct that needs deep cleaning is best handled by a vent professional.

Gas or Electric, and What to Tell Me

Tell me whether your Whirlpool dryer runs on gas or electricity, because the heating parts are completely different. Then give me the symptom, any error code exactly as it appears, plus the model number when it's within reach. A clear picture of the tag that lists it helps. Slow Drying and the House Vent

Long drying times can come from the dryer itself, a restricted house vent, the size of the load, or the cycle you picked. Warm but damp laundry, clothes that come out very hot, or weak airflow at the outside vent all suggest an airflow problem. I diagnose the dryer and tell you whether airflow looks like part of it. I never run a dryer with the exhaust disconnected, and the exhaust should always end outdoors, never in a room, attic, or crawl space.
