Whirlpool Corporation bought KitchenAid in 1986 and expanded it well beyond mixers, into refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, and more, positioned as Whirlpool's premium line, above standard Whirlpool and well above the value-tier Amana brand. The result is appliances built with tighter tolerances, quieter motors, and more sophisticated electronics than their Whirlpool counterparts, which is exactly why repairing one usually makes more sense than trading it in.
