I've been repairing appliances for four and a half decades, and Frigidaire has been part of my workload since 1980. Washer, dryer, refrigerator, or oven, if it carries that name, I know what tends to go wrong and how to get it running again without pushing you toward a replacement you don't need.

The Brand Name That Once Meant Any Refrigerator

Frigidaire's history is longer and stranger than most appliance brands. General Motors bought the company in 1919 and ran it as an internal division for sixty years, building refrigerators so widely used that for decades many Americans called any refrigerator a Frigidaire, whatever the badge on the front actually said. GM sold the appliance business to White Consolidated Industries in 1979, and Electrolux, the Swedish manufacturer that also makes AEG, bought White Consolidated in 1986. Frigidaire has stayed under Electrolux ever since.

That GM-built stock has a reputation for running for decades, and I still get called out to service refrigerators built in the 1970s and 1980s that are still holding cold today. More recently, Frigidaire's Gallery and Professional Series lines moved the brand upmarket, with stainless finishes, electronic controls, and commercial-inspired components that call for a slightly different diagnostic approach than the standard lineup.

Refrigerator Not Cooling Evenly

Can point to a failing compressor, a stuck defrost cycle, or a door seal that's no longer sealing.

Washer Stops Mid-Cycle

Often a lid switch, a drive belt, or a control board that's lost track of where it is in the cycle.

Dryer Takes Two Cycles to Dry a Load

Usually a clogged vent path, a failing heating element, or a thermostat reading the drum wrong.

Oven Temperature Runs Off

Frequently, a drifting temperature sensor or, on gas models, an igniter that's no longer holding a steady flame.

Ice Maker Stopped Producing

Common on Gallery series refrigerators specifically, usually a water inlet valve or the ice maker module itself.

Washer, dryer, refrigerator, or oven, and standard lineup or Gallery/Professional Series- tell me what you've got and what it's doing, and I'll know roughly what I'm walking into before I arrive.

Locating the Model Number

On a refrigerator, look inside the fresh-food compartment along the wall or ceiling. On a washer or dryer, check the inside of the door or lid opening. On a range or wall oven, look along the front frame near the door or behind the storage drawer. Frigidaire's own Owner Center has troubleshooting guides if you'd rather look something up before calling.

A Couple of Safety Notes First

If you smell gas, see scorching or exposed wiring, or notice water pooling anywhere near an outlet, skip the troubleshooting and just call.

Beyond that, it helps if you can answer a few things when we talk: how long has this been happening, does it happen every time or only sometimes, and is there a code or light showing on the display? Knowing the answers in advance shaves real time off the visit.

The service call is $89 and covers the trip plus a full diagnosis. Once I know what's actually broken, I'll quote the repair itself before doing anything further.

I install genuine manufacturer parts whenever I can source them. On older GM-era units where an exact part is no longer made, I'll tell you upfront if a suitable modern equivalent is the better option.

Every repair comes with a full year of coverage on both the part and my labor, with no extra charge for nights, weekends, or holidays.
