   Recommended Appliance Cleaners  

If you notice soap buildup in your washing machine or dishwasher, I recommend using Affresh. Many clients use too much soap, and those who prefer cold water washes often experience odors in their washing machines. Using more hot water generally helps prevent this issue. To effectively reduce soap buildup, wash towels in hot water. 

   Washing Machine Soap Buildup 

If you don't have access to a front-loading washer for cleaning comforters and quilts, it's best to take them to a laundromat. These items can be too heavy for a top-loading washer. I recommend doing an exceptional load with Affresh and hot water to clean the washer before adding your bedding. I check through the front door glass to ensure no soap bubbles in the final rinse water. 

   Dishwasher Soap Buildup

Dishwashers can also accumulate soap buildup. I suggest using Dishwasher Affresh to clean them. Run an empty load with no dishes to ensure the dishwasher is clean. Once clean, you can try washing your glasses in a special load to remove any milky white soap buildup. If that doesn't work, washing the glasses with vinegar in the kitchen sink is another option. If stubborn buildup persists, it may be time to replace the glasses.  

   Cleaning Kitchen Sink Disposal Buildup 

If your kitchen sink disposal doesn't smell right, try putting a bag of ice down the disposal while running water to grind away the accumulated goop. You'll be amazed at what bubbles up in the sink. Repeat this process if necessary. Once the disposal is clean, you can use Affresh disposal tablets for ongoing maintenance.

The only appliance parts store I recommend is Dey Appliance Parts, located throughout the Twin Cities. They offer a great selection of appliance cleaners and parts. If a specific cleaner or part isn't readily available, they can order it and ship it to a location convenient for you. 

When Will My Technician Arrive At My Home

I am Larry, and I am the only technician here. Generally, I make an appointment when you place the service call. There are two-hour windows of time. I will call first about 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment. If you respond to the text or phone call, I start driving in your direction. 

Should You Repair Or Replace Your Appliance

You can research this, and different companies feel differently about this topic. Some say there is a fifty percent rule. If the appliance is more than 50% of its life span or over 50% of the cost of a new one, buy new, they suggest. I have been fixing appliances for 45 years, and you cannot put a time frame on life expectancy. A senior living alone can make an appliance that lasts 30 years and has light usage every month.

 A person with five Children who does all their laundry on a Sunday can wear out a washer and dryer in three years. I, for one, judge each appliance by its noises, appearance, and the answer to my questions you provided. Typically, I don't suggest throwing away an appliance that would outlive the new appliance you would have purchased.

Price is a factor in repairing your appliances. I might put in a washer pump, water valve, and belt on a washing machine. Front-loading washer bearings are costly and could be a waste of money. I will replace a heating element or thermofuse on a dryer and offer a clean dryer, but I hesitate to put a motor in it. Something more is wrong if you, unlike most, need a dryer motor replacement. 

I'm okay with those choices if your refrigerator needs a fan motor, defrost system, cold control, computer, or cleaning. But it's time to consider a new one when the fridge doors are sagging and the door gaskets are ripped or torn.

Ultimately, I rely on my judgment and 45 years of experience.

 Larry is the real deal. I was having a problem with my KitchenAid fridge-freezer overfrosting. Larry came by and told me one of three issues it could be and told me how to temporarily fix it until I knew which of the three issues it was (he told me how to diagnose the issue). I followed his advice with the temporary fix while keeping my eye on the issue. Once I was sure of the issue, Larry came back with the replacement part and made the repair in a matter of minutes. The fridge is back in working order.
